- Consumer grade was rated as C2, upgraded from C3. Only 85% of homes had been surveyed within the past 5 years. A new survey of 25,000+ homes is under way (RSH judgement, Jun 2026).
- IMD 2025: rank 18 of 296 English LAs.
What these figures mean. TP01/TP02/TP03 are tenant satisfaction scores from the Regulator of Social Housing's 2024/25 Tenant Satisfaction Measures. Decent Homes is the national minimum standard for social housing. IMD rank compares deprivation against all of England (1 = most deprived).
You may be able to claim if
- You're a tenant of Nottingham Council
- You've reported a repair problem (damp, mould, leaks, broken heating, structural issues, pests) and it hasn't been fixed within a reasonable time
- The disrepair has affected your health, your belongings, or your ability to use part of your home
You do not need to still be in dispute with the council to claim. Most claims are made after a repair has already been logged.
Legal basis and compensation
Under Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Nottingham Council has a legal duty to keep the structure, exterior, and the installations for water, gas, electricity and heating in your home in repair. Since October 2025, Awaab's Law additionally sets fixed timescales for investigating and fixing damp, mould and other significant hazards in social housing. That duty applies directly to Nottingham Council as your landlord.
RSH gave Nottingham City Council a C3 grade in January 2025, citing almost 1,000 live disrepair cases and nearly 40% of homes not surveyed in over ten years. This pattern of findings is one reason claims against Nottingham Council are being taken seriously by the regulator, and it can support your individual case.
Compensation typically reflects a rent-based reduction for the period the home was unfit to live in, the cost of damaged belongings, and, where relevant, the impact on your health or living conditions.

What could my compensation be worth?
There's no fixed table or calculator that can tell you your case's value in advance. It depends on how long the disrepair went on, how serious it was, and the impact it had on you and your home. Our full guide explains how compensation is actually calculated, including the difference between general damages (for loss of enjoyment of your home) and special damages (for provable financial losses).
